Dental Implants

Dental implants are a great alternative to dentures or dental bridges in restoring your bite and giving you a complete smile. Unlike other treatments, a dental implant is a complete tooth replacement embedded directly into your jaw. When you lose a tooth or a tooth extraction becomes necessary because the tooth is severely decayed or diseased, you have several options to bring your smile back together. If you want a complete restoration of your teeth beyond dentures, a dental implant may be exactly what you are looking for to correct your smile.

Benefits of Dental Implants

  • Dental implants have a completely natural look – the crowns that cover the dental implant are custom made to fit your smile and teeth just right.
  • Implants are directly connected to your jaw and function like natural teeth – most patients with implants report not being able to tell the difference between their implants and their natural teeth.
  • Dental implants strengthen your jaw – when a tooth is lost, the place where your jawbone held the tooth deteriorates over time, weakening your jaw overall. An implant is inserted directly into that space and stimulates your jaw to continue generating bone in that area.
  • Teeth adjacent to the implants gain stability – losing a tooth naturally causes the teeth around it to pull toward the gap, and an implant fills that space to keep the surrounding teeth where they are.
  • Gums stay healthier when implants are used – missing teeth create areas for bacteria and food to get stuck; an implant prevents that from happening.
  • Dental implants can reduce facial sagging and age in the face – bone loss from missing teeth causes the muscles and tissue in the face around that area to sag. An implant fills that space, strengthens the bone and jaw, and prevents premature sagging.
  • Chewing power – compared to other treatments like dentures or bridges, you will notice a better, natural bite and ability to chew anything with dental implants.

Dental Implant Placement

To make receiving an implant more convenient, we can complete your entire procedure right here in our office. We need to surgically place dental implants into the jaw bone to do their job of providing proper support and increasing oral health. After being put into the jaw bone, the titanium implant will be secured into place by the surrounding bone and gum tissue.

Patients must heal entirely from their implant placement before proceeding. Healing can take anywhere from four to six months. Recovery allows the gum tissues and bone to assimilate to the implant. Once the implant has integrated, you will come back into our office for your restoration placement. Dental implants can provide permanent placement for dental crowns, bridges, and dentures. The restoration of your choice will determine how many implants you will need to be placed.

If you would like to determine if dental implants are right for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at Dr. Brian Valle, P.A. or speak with us at your next appointment.

Things to Consider Before Getting Dental Implants

Not everyone may be a great candidate for dental implants. Adequate and strong bone and gum structure are necessary for the implant procedure to be successful. Periodontal disease and other serious infections may be necessary to treat first. When the underlying bone and gum structure is weak, this impacts the success rates for dental implants.

Another factor is the tooth extraction site itself. If you just lost a tooth, you may need to wait for the jaw and tissue to heal before a dental implant is done. There are situations in which a tooth extraction is performed, and a dental implant is immediately put in place. If you are interested in getting dental implants right after an extraction, talk with us so that we can explore that option for you.
